How much does an Interlibrary loan cost?

Answer

Hello,

There is a service fee of $6 charged when an item is received successfully at the Carlsbad Library and made available for the requesting patron to check out.

The library that loans the item may also charge a lending or copying fee, which can vary widely. Carlsbad Library's Interlibrary Loan staff will contact patrons if such a fee is involved. Patrons may also specify a limit amount when making their request. Any fees charged by the lending library must be paid upon picking up the item, by check or money order payable to the lending library. The Carlsbad City Library is unable to accept cash or credit card payments on behalf of other libraries for interlibrary loans.

Interlibrary loan requests will not be accepted for items published within the last 12 months, or for items owned by the Carlsbad City Library. Processing time on an interlibrary loan request is a minimum of two weeks.

We encourage patrons to check the collections of other local libraries, such as the San Diego County and Oceanside Libraries, as well as materials available through these other libraries' consortium networks. Materials may be available through nearby libraries faster or less expensively than an interlibrary loan request.

To place an interlibrary loan request, please contact a Reference Librarian at 442-339-2038 or 442-339-2871.

Thank you,

Reference Librarian
