Would the library consider subscribing to the Oxford English Dictionary Online? The service then becomes available to the community.
The online service is newly updated and easy to use. The individual subscription is expensive but I believe it is discounted to institutions. Even if the library provided this at a cost to cardholders I believe there would be great interest in it. Thank you!
Answer
Hello,
Thank you for your suggestion. We have a dedicated team that reviews and evaluates online databases for possible inclusion to our online resources. The team takes into consideration our general audience, as opposed to say students at a college library, the cost and the our inquiries into the topic (will demand meet the cost?) and then the type of resources we already have on the topic. We then evaluate each database on its ease of use, if it's kept up to date, and the features it provides. Please see our full list of databases on our eResources page at https://library.carlsbadca.gov/services/eresources.
Thank you,
Reference Librarian
