Why does the home page default to sci fi even after I log in? Why can't I choose my own default setting?

The New Additions to the Collection carousel is set to New Science Fiction/Fantasy. While the other New Additions lists are available using the dropdown above the carousel, the default is not customizable by the user. The My Account area of the catalog has some customization options, but the carousel does not.
